Sheffield Festival of Sport EIS Sheffield Sunday 27th January 2019

Two Warrington Athletic Club athletes travelled to the English Institute of Sport at Sheffield on Sunday 27th January to compete in the Sheffield Festival of Athletics.
In the 400 metres Ashley Nemits in her first year as an under 17 competed over 400 metres for the first time since the same meeting last year.Ashley was competing against under 20 and senior athletes and ran superbly to finish in 3rd place in the race with a new personal best time of 57.16 seconds taking almost 3 seconds of her previous best.The race was won by British Champion and European Bronze Medallist at 400 metres hurdles Meghan Beesley (Birchfield Harriers)with 53.49 seconds with under 23 Yasmin Liverpool (Coventry) 2nd on 55.26 seconds.Ashley won the under 17 age group.Ashley’s time breaks the UK record time for a 14 year old of 57.8 seconds held by Olympian Linsey MacDonald from 9th December 1978.Linsey turned 15 the following February while Ashley is 15 at the end of March..
In the 200 metres under 15 Shauna Clarke recently recovered from a hip injury ran close to her personal best time finishing 2nd in her race with a time of 29.63 seconds this was despite the fire alarm going off before the race and then again during it.
