Cheshire Championships Victoria Park Warrington 11/12th May 2019

The Cheshire Athletics Championships were held over the weekend of 11/12th May with Warrington Athletic Club collecting 18 titles along with many other medals an also two Championship Best performances which are also UK leading times.
In the under 15 age group Meg Corker in her heat of the 75 metres hurdles smashed her own Championship and UK leading time in winning her heat in 11.0 seconds but due to an unfavourable wind in the final recorded a winning time of 11.2 seconds.
In the under 17 age group Ashley Nemits won the 300 metres with a time of 39.5 seconds to improve the Championship best time set by Carys McAulay a few years ago and move to the top of the UK outdoor rankings with only the indoor times of herself and Holly Mpassy (Blackheath & Bromley) being faster.Ashley also won the 200 metres with a time of 25.2 seconds.
In the under 15 girls 1500 metres Orla Gregory won with a time of 4 minutes 45.9 seconds and was presented with the Marie Birkenhead Trophy which has previously been won by Warrington Athletic Club athletes including Paula Whitney ,Hannah Tart,Harriet Knowles-Jones and Katie Lowery.Orla was presented the trophy by her coach Russell Tart father of Hannah.
In the women’s events County titles were won by Evie Schofield (under 13 girls 70 metres hurdles 11.8 seconds),Rebecca Hardy (under 20 100 metres hurdles 15.9 seconds),Elizabeth Wright ( under 20 400 metres 62.2 seconds) and Megan Kettle (under 20 Hammer 34.87 metres).Over 50 Master runner Linda Dykes won the 100/200 metres double with times of 16.6 seconds and 42.7 seconds respectively despite a fall in the 200 metres.
In the men’s events County titles were won byJoe Buckley (under 20 5000 metres 15 minutes 32.4 seconds),Tom Greaves (Senior 5000 metres 16 minutes 24.7 seconds & 3000 metres 9 minutes 17.3 seconds),Jordan Jones (under 20 2000 metres steeplechase 6 minutes 22.7 seconds),Daniel Newman (senior 3000 metres steeplechase 12 minutes 08.2 seconds),Jack Wadsworth (under 20 800 metres 2 minutes 03.9 seconds),Corey Beechall (under 13 High Jump 1.35 metres)and Ryan Jones (under 20 Javelin 36.55 metres).
All other athletes performed well with 13 second and 12 third places and many including title winners achieved personal best performances.In the under 15 and under 17 age groups the athletes now wait to find out if they will be selected for the inter county match later in the season.
