Last edited: Sunday June 7th 2020
Although all athletics has been suspended due to COVID-19 this has not stopped races being organised all over the World. This is being achieved by doing virtual events using GPS watches and sending the performances to various organisers. One such event was a European Masters Open 5 Kilometres in which two Warrington Athletic Club runners took part.Fastest Warrington runner was Steve Watmough who ran at a loop course near High Legh where he recorded a time of 16 minutes 37 seconds which placed him 29th overall and 2nd in the over 55 age group.Steve was 1st European in the age group but as it was an open event entries were received from outside of Europe and the over 55 age group winner was Bruce Graham from Australia with a time of 16 minutes 31 seconds.Bruce ran his time on a course just outside the Australian capital Canberra. At the 2018 World Masters Championships Bruce won the Silver Medal in the Cross Country and finished 7th in the 1500 metres and 5000 metres with Steve finishing in 8th in the 5000 metres.Steve was also part of the winning Great Britain team.Dave Norman was the other Warrington runner finishing 89th overall and 6th in the over 60 age group with a time of 18 minutes 17 seconds.Dave ran his time on a course near Kingsley.
